To manage risk and maintain platform stability, Bybit may impose platform-level collateral limits on certain assets. These limits apply to the total collateral usage of an asset across all users on the platform, rather than to any individual account.

Once the total collateral usage of a specific asset reaches the platform limit, all users will be temporarily restricted from using that asset as new collateral.

Scope

This mechanism applies to the following products:

  1. Unified Trading Account (UTA): Cross Margin and Portfolio Margin modes
  2. Crypto Loans: Assets pledged as collateral for borrowing
  3. Institutional Loans: Collateral assets within a risk unit

Note: Positions in Isolated Margin mode are not affected. Asset transfers under Isolated Margin will continue to function normally.

Restrictions After the Limit Is Reached

Once the platform-level collateral usage of an asset reaches the maximum limit, the following restrictions will apply.

Action

Restriction

Deposits into UTA

If the asset has already been enabled as collateral, only the portion within the platform's remaining available collateral limit will be transferred into the UTA when deposited in Cross Margin or Portfolio Margin mode. Any amount exceeding the limit will be automatically credited to the Funding Account.

Transfers into UTA

If the asset has already been enabled as collateral, only transfers within the platform's remaining available collateral limit will be allowed when the asset is transferred into the UTA in Cross Margin or Portfolio Margin mode.

Enabling as collateral

In the UTA, the asset can no longer be enabled as collateral.

Switching margin mode

If the asset has already been enabled as collateral and the account's asset balance exceeds the platform's remaining available collateral limit, switching from Isolated Margin mode to Cross Margin or Portfolio Margin mode will not be supported. A notification will be displayed indicating that the corresponding asset has reached the limit.

Adding collateral (Crypto Loans)

Requests to add the asset as new collateral during new borrowing, collateral adjustments, or loan renewals will be rejected.

Adding collateral (Institutional Loans)

The asset cannot be added as new collateral for Institutional Loans.

Bybit will display a warning icon next to the relevant assets on your account page to help you monitor platform collateral usage:

  1. Yellow: The platform collateral usage of the asset is approaching the limit. You are advised to prepare in advance.
  2. Red: The platform collateral usage of the asset has reached 100%, and the corresponding restrictions are fully in effect.

In addition, when the limit is approaching or has been reached, you may receive in-app notifications or email reminders suggesting that you use other supported assets as collateral.

Note: These notifications are supplementary risk reminders and do not guarantee successful delivery or timely triggering in all cases. Users are responsible for monitoring and managing their account risk levels and should not rely solely on system notifications.

Recommended Actions After the Limit Is Reached

If you receive a warning notification or your request to add collateral is rejected, you may consider the following actions:

  1. Use alternative collateral assets: Transfer other supported assets into your account as collateral. This is the most direct and effective solution.
  2. Reduce position or loan exposure: Reduce your position size or repay part of your loan to lower collateral requirements and reduce account risk without using additional restricted collateral assets.
  3. Actively manage account risk: If the restricted asset can no longer be used as additional collateral, the methods above are the only ways to further reduce account risk. Failure to manage risk in a timely manner may result in liquidation. You are advised to avoid excessive reliance on a single collateral asset.

API Reference

If you are trading via API, you may use the following endpoints to check the platform collateral usage for supported assets:

  1. UTA: GET /v5/account/wallet-balance
  2. Crypto Loans: GET /v5/crypto-loan-common/position
